1978 — Approved by the former State Education Commission, Jinan University School of Medicine was officially established, enrolling its first cohort of six-year undergraduate students in Clinical Medicine. It was among the first medical schools founded within comprehensive universities in the People's Republic of China.
1980 — Authorized by the Ministry of Education, the School launched its first master's programs in Biochemistry, Hematology, and Ophthalmology.
1984 — The School of Medicine was registered with the World Health Organization (WHO).
1998 — The Department of Nursing was established. The School was among the first institutions authorized to confer the Master of Clinical Medicine (Professional Degree), and admitted its first cohort of master's students in Epidemiology and Health Statistics.
1999 — The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established.
2005 — The First Clinical Medical College of Jinan University was established.
2006 — Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine was authorized as a first-level discipline conferring doctoral degrees.
2009 — Authorization was granted for the Doctor of Clinical Medicine (Professional Degree). In the same year, the Clinical Medicine program was designated as a National Characteristic Specialty by the Ministry of Education.
2011 — Clinical Medicine was authorized as a first-level discipline conferring doctoral degrees. The School was authorized to confer master's degrees in Public Health and Preventive Medicine as a first-level discipline.
2012 — The Clinical Medicine program was selected by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health as one of the pilot institutions under the first cohort of the "Outstanding Physician Education and Training Program."
2015 — Jinan University School of Medicine became one of the 20 medical schools jointly established by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Education nationwide.
2016 — The University restructured the School of Medicine, establishing the Medical Division (Health Science Center).
2017 — The Master of Public Health (MPH) program was approved, enrolling its first cohort of MPH students.
2018 — Basic Medical Sciences was authorized as a first-level discipline conferring doctoral degrees. The Clinical Medicine program passed the professional accreditation conducted by the Ministry of Education.
2020 — The Clinical Medicine program was selected as one of the first batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Programs.
2021 — The undergraduate program in Preventive Medicine was approved by the Ministry of Education.
2022 — The first cohort of undergraduate students in Preventive Medicine was formally enrolled (the "First Grade of Huangpu").
2023—Approved as the Key Laboratory of Viral Pathogenesis and Prevention, Ministry of Education
2023—Founded the journal Aging Research
