July 18–20, Guangzhou — The regional finals of the 11th National MedicalInnovation Competition for University Students and the "Belt and Road"InternationalCompetition—BasicClinicalTrack(WesternandSouth-Central Divisions)concluded successfully at Jinan University's Shipai Campus. Hosted by the National Medical Innovation Competition Committee for College Students and organized by Jinan University, the event drew 651 teams from 109 universitiesacross the western and south-central divisions, with over2,300facultyandstudentsgathering at this century-old institution serving overseas Chinese communities.

Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony on July 19 featured addresses bySunYu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jinan University;LiLing, Chair of the Competition Committee; and other distinguished guests. Secretary Sun highlighted Jinan University's 119-year legacy as China's premier institution for overseas Chinese education, having cultivated500,000+graduatesfrom170+countriesandregionsworldwide. As one of the first medical schools established within a comprehensive university in China, the University has built an integrated
"medical-education-research-industry"talent cultivation ecosystem.

Chair Li Ling traced the competition's 15-year evolution from a national forum to a"Belt and Road"-integrated international platform, now listed in the China Association of Higher Education competition directory. The competition's"three-level schedule + dual-track evaluation"mechanism balances academic rigor in innovative research with translational potential in innovative design, embodying the"earlyimmersioninresearch,laboratories,and teams"philosophy of medical student training.

Competition Highlights
The regional finals covered 19 specialized fields including respiratory medicine, cardiovascular science, oncology, and laboratory medicine, conducted across 22concurrentvenuesthrough hybrid online-offline presentation and defense formats. Participants demonstrated solid research foundations and novel interdisciplinary perspectives spanning basic discovery to clinical translation.






Closing and Awards
At the closing ceremony, Deputy Secretary Chen Ying called for deepeningcollaborativemedicaleducationmechanismsand building a"MedicalInnovationCommunity" to address global health challenges. She encouraged students to"pursuebreakthroughsattheintersectionofdisciplineswiththeperseveranceofdecade-long dedication."


The successful convening of this regional final not only ignited medical students' passion for innovation but also strengthened "BeltandRoad"medicaleducation cooperation, contributing fresh momentum to the cultivation of globally competitive medical talent.
